Significant women of Arundel, from medieval to today.
Arundel is full of remarkable women, yet their stories are often lost to time while sometimes those of men can continue to be told like legends. This project aims to shine a light on some of the women who helped shape Arundel—and the wider world. From duchesses, suffragists and artists, their lives reflect a range of female experiences, each offering something to connect with, challenge, or inspire us today. These women made an impact, not just locally but nationally and even internationally, and it’s time their contributions were recognized. I’ve chosen language that’s accessible to everyone, in the hope that it sparks conversation across all ages. Whether you’re reading as a local, a visitor, a student, or simply someone curious about women’s history, I hope these stories prompt reflection and discussion. By bringing these lives back into focus, we not only celebrate their legacy—we also ask who remains unheard, and how we might keep more voices from fading into silence.
This display has been created by Florence, a work experience student and is on display in the foyer of Arundel Museum.
